Level 788 does not decrement

LEVEL 788 - The stated object is to collect 5 spotted balls. Every time I score a spotted ball and "explode" it, the counter does not decrement. I noted that older posts on the internet state the object to collect 5 sets of double stripes. What gives?

In this level you need to combine 5 sets of striped candies, like in this example:
