What happened to my lives received from friends?

I have been receiving and giving lives to friends fir a long time. About 2 weeks ago I had about 50 lives received from my friends left but they all disappeared and now I don't receive lives from friends anymore. Why this happened? Is there a limit to the total number of lives you can receive?

    Thanks for the response.

    But this is like daylight robbery. You should have warned about this beforehand and let people use the lives they already had and then implement the new policy.

    Not very convincing.
