After app update I have been sent back to level 1. Tried logging in via Facebook and via 'King'. Still on level 1. Rebooting iPhone did not help.

As long as you actively connected your game to either Facebook or Kingdom before, your progress will be saved and synced to it. If you did, when you reconnect to that account in the game again, the progress from the point where it was last synced will come up. What level do you see yourself on if you load the game directly in Facebook?

No, this has not helped. I loaded directly from Facebook, but it still takes me to level 1. Never had this problem before, and have often moved between iPad and iPhone, quite seamlessly.
