there is something wrong with this level- the fruit never drops on the ipad- and not consistently on the computer.

No, there is nothing wrong with the level and the fruit drops with complete consistency. You just haven't worked out the pattern of when and where matches must be made (or at least candies removed - lollipops come in very handy on this level) to progress the fruit. Try studying a few videos of the level to see how it all works.
