on starting late

i have a doctors appointment today and i’m thinking of starting late right after i leave my appointment because i think starting the competition and having to stop playing so soon would put me in a huge disadvantage. but i am also wondering if there could be any disadvantages on starting a a few hours late, if it could get me in trouble with the tournament in any way or if it’s okay.
