I have researched the problem and have followed the instructions on updating apps on the Kindle. After do this, my Kindle stated that all apps were up to date. So on further research, I believe that older Kindle Fire versions may not be able to update certain apps. Goodbye Candy Crush on my Kindle.

How old is your device @alanrobin1
I know the Fire OS is based on android open source but I don't know how that relates to versions of android.
Anything older than android 5 is unsupported by Candy Crush and this seems to have led to the wholesale removal of players using older apps/devices.
