Best tips on how to win a leaderboard competition

Hello All. I have played a test game for the Candy Cup to see if I can win such a competition playing as a new player from scratch using only the means given to me by the game. It looks like I will succeed and tomorrow I will post my strategy here, as it's only fair to share what I have learned.

One thing is clear: King is favouring newbies. Not that the levels themselves are any easier than, say, levels 4000-7000, they are not in my view. But newbies get free gold (50 gold plus 40 for each champions race plus 91 gold for the first Candy Royale) and we get the speed button! Using gold wisely you can definitely play fast enough without having to spend any real money.

I wasn't going to share this here since there is a possibility that King will take action to stop players from doing this in the future if they read about it here, but since you asked: (And yes, this is perfectly legitimate at the moment, since the game allows it)

I was using an old dysfunctional device which I was no longer using. However I could have uninstalled my game after saving (but that would have lost me my boosters that I still had in the account). I then played from level 1 through to level 711 without saving the game until I won the Candy Cup. I had over 1000 gold as well by this time, which I used to buy boosters in my inventory until there was no gold left. I then went to settings and chose the "already have a King account log in with email" option at the bottom of the page. It brought me back to my game at level 16,806 with inventory full of boosters and the party poppers I had earned. The gold bars do not transfer, so that is why I bought boosters with them first, but I do still have some gold in that account from before.

Please note that this method would be unlikely to work in All Stars because we have to fill in our contact details on the form before the final stage of that competition. So I definitely would NOT recommend trying it for All Stars! But it is a method that will now allow me to continue playing my game near the top of the map which otherwise I would have had to abandon months ago.

So I understand from whatever level you was on, you save it, uninstall . Reopen the app back up, as if you are so to speak brand new at the game. then start playing ad all the levels will be a easy win. So my question is after you won, did you close out the app and open back up and start back your other CC spot! Also winning all the gold an boosters do you lose that ? Is this all correct so I can understand it?.

This player above used the following strategy to win the Candy Cup:

She started a brand new game the Monday after the qualifier and knockout rounds were already finished, in time to be part of the last "second chance" round. The initial aim was to just play for fun and to test out the levels, but once level 25 was passed the countdown to the second chance round showed up, so she decided to join the competition on Wednesday evening after reaching level 186 with almost 400 gold bars. She knew from reading the T&Cs that she would be placed on a brand new leaderboard with other players joining the competition late at this point, all with a score of zero. Then she played for as long as it took to get into the lead and built on it watching if any player was trying to keep up. With 4 hours left it became clear that no other player on this leaderboard was trying to catch up and it was an easy win.

At this point she had reached level 306 and started the final the moment it started. Crushing to get a good lead but not overexerting those ageing fingers or neglecting other duties in the process. By morning a player from India had just overtaken her, so the second day was used to try to get a large enough lead to avoid this happening the second night. For a time this player tried to keep up, but eventually a large enough lead was gained to be off putting enough to discourage any attempt to catch up. The rest was casual and enjoyable crushing to score a bit more and gain more gold in the process. Some of those levels were hellish and needed a UFO or gold to pass, but this player got a 40 gold champions race and 30 gold chocolate box, so finished the event with 1135 gold bars. There was also the Volcanic Panic event which gave out a UFO and lollipop every four episodes so there was no need to purchase UFOs.

The general playing strategy was:

Play no boosters for any levels up to level 185. Then play both starting colour bomb and wrap/stripe for all levels marked as hard or worse. Timed boosters are quite good as these will also help pass the normal levels more quickly. Play the first move recommended by the game, unless there is a double CB, of course. If failing on the first try give up and try again, but use the fish booster or coconut wheel if available as well. If close enough use a hammer or 10 gold to pass on second attempt. If not close enough try until you get a lucky board or enough extra moves are offered for 10 gold. I would suggest inviting every player on your leadership board in the first round you play and then you will get enough friends quite quickly to get gifted lives. Experience playing and checking out levels other players have got stuck on has taught me that those first 1000 levels all can be passed within the 20 life limit, so paying for indefinite lives should not be necessary. (Not what Me did, she ran out of lives at one point and paid 69 gold for indefinite lives).

Of course, the next live event may be all different, so there is no guarantee any given strategy will work. The game is ever changing and will continue to keep us on our toes for sure.

I know it may seem a bit late for this competition but there is always the next one. This is what I learned from All Stars and the Candy Cup (July 2024).

They tell you all you need to know about which strategy might work and which might not. In the Candy Cup the T&C were crystal clear about how many players would be on each leaderboard in which rounds, the date and length of rounds etc

2. Plan your playing strategy well ahead

Know what your priorities are: Fun playing? Winning at all cost? Winning without spending money? Winning without losing gold? Winning without losing more gold than the prize is worth? Do you have time free in your life schedule to even play the final round? Ideally you need to set aside free playing time especially for the first hour and the last two hours of the final round. Does your level range even allow you to score enough of the right candies?

Then according to your aims choose one of the following:

Just play your usual game and have fun. If you win or lose, why care?
If you have limited resources then set a maximum spend and stick to it. Buy gold up front and don't spend any real money during playing time!
Use the information in the Terms and Conditions to choose when to play: Any round with a limited number of players per leaderboard means that there will be unlimited leaderboards throughout playing time, so the later you join the less time you will be crushing. If you want to save your fingers, time, and levels then join the round later. But NOT in the final. Anyone thinking of using the "join late" strategy in the final round will get a nasty surprise. For the final you will need to start promptly. The earlier the better.
If your level range is not going let you compete consider starting a brand new game. If you choose to do so and only have the one device to play on, first use up all your boosters, then save your game if you plan to keep it for the future and uninstall the app. Reinstall the app and start a new game for the event, play to at least level 25 to join the competition. If you do this before the event even starts you are more likely to get an easier game to collect boosters and gold in preparation.

3. Practise and know your capabilities

Practice helps because the more you play the more you will understand the patterns of how the algorithms work. Even if you don't understand what an algorithm even is, practice can lead to an intuitive understanding of which boosters played at which point in the level will let you pass a level, and which level you will have to just give up on and pay up the 10 gold bars to proceed.

You should know from other events how many coloured candies you can score in any given time using your personal best tried and tested strategy. Even the chocolate box tells us this, so you will know if you can catch up the leader or not and how much time you will have to invest in the competition to come first.
