Is your friend already playing the game and connected with you? If so, you will be able to find them in the "Friends' list".
To check your Friends list —> Click on your Profile icon located in the top of the game map screen — You will open your Inventory page — at the top of that screen to your left, you will "Friends" tab — click on it to open your Friends list — now, scroll through the available list.
