Why do people expect lives but don't give lives? I'm getting awful sick of giving lives and not receiving them back!!!

This is the age old question that all players experience frequently in the games🙃
I would suggest you to keep an eye on those players that keep asking for lives and never send any, and remove them from your friends' list! After that, please make sure that you make friends with the players that are "active" - you can find this info on their Player Cards; and also the players that had at least 2 digit number at "sent lives"!
Once in 3-4 months, that's what I do in my game and it is working for me so far😊
