I was halfway through the challenge and up to 125 gold bars and my game just suddenly froze and reset. I lost my place in the challenge.

Hi @cleigh1981 I am sorry to hear that your game froze mid game affecting your Candy Royale progress.
While I completely understand how this affected your game, I am afraid it is not possible to restore your progress in the challenge. However I would like to suggest to follow our Help Center to help with the freezing issue.
