Should All Stars 2026 be fairer? A warning

Here is my take on the call to make All Stars fair for all. I keep it brief:

The fairer the competition becomes the harder it will be for anyone to win it.

Why?

No matter what the rules, there will always be 10 million players competing over just 10 places in the live finals. If the rules get modified to even out the playing field and allow not so good players to compete with the best, this won't change the fact that 10 million players are competing over 10 places. No matter how hard you try, no matter how much money you spend, this will not alter your chances to win, because the more even the playing field the more others will be able to do exactly what you do to win. If strategy no longer matters then All Stars will not find the best player, it will find the luckiest player.

There will always be 9,999,990 losers!

So be careful what you wish for.

Oh, sorry about that. To avoid this issue, a miniature leaderboard should be shown on the Level Complete screen. Furthermore, the number of purple candies should be shown where Yeti or Tiffi is displayed (similar to Soda).

The player cards are only refreshed quicker if you force close the app and restart it, provided that the level is successfully completed and the progress is saved.

(Why did King remove the landscape orientation on tablets? That doesn't make sense, since there would be one less screen to skip.)

I think that the advice you give about playing on two devices in order to keep an eye on the leaderboard is in breach of the Terms and Conditions @KiwiBird97. I refer to the clause below:

4.6.7 Simultaneously playing the same instance of CCS or the Tournament on multiple devices or multiple tabs in a browser;

I may be wrong, since the Terms and Conditions are worded in such a way that they are not always clear to me, but that is how I read that paragraph above: I certainly made sure I logged out of my iPhone every time before I logged into the game on my iPad.

My point about the player card was that they are not updated live, and many people think they are, so misuse the information on them.

I am not in agreement with your judgement on either players targeting you specifically because they are "playing now" nor that a high win streak or a huge number of levels played in the last 7 days gives you much information about the strength of the opponents. Quite often the players who pass hundreds of levels in the earlier rounds turn out to have overexerted themselves and most experienced players join the earlier rounds later so they have to pass fewer levels to win their leaderboards. Those who cling on to a win streak at all costs may have spent up all their gold and boosters and run out of money by the final rounds. Many top players let go of a win streak during the earlier rounds. I did because I found it was easy to win my group without overexerting my game. I used lives from friends and saved my gold for the last two rounds, most of it for the last round. In the final round 3/3 you just don't have the time to waste to look at other players. Play your own game, crush the best you can, that is the only way get near the top in final round 3/3.

Candy Crush is essentially a single player game, us against the game, us against the algorithm, even in the All Stars tournament. The winners are the players who know the algorithms the best and can outwit them.

Here's what I think.

I do not see anything wrong with these player cards. The comparison tool is used to compare your win streaks and other stats with other players and determine their "rage status." You may not stand a chance at those that have a higher win streak and/or speed (# of levels cleared in a 7-day period).
The green "Playing Now" is a sign that you are being targeted by other players, similar to Tetris 99 (Nintendo Switch). Playing on multiple devices can cause unexpected results, such as losing the Super Color Bomb when you did not lose a level. It's okay if you have one device playing and another one tracking the leaderboard.

To be clear, Christine, both of these fields are a must. What if the leader (who is on high alert) stops playing for a while, only to find out later that someone else took their spot?!

Someone has knocked you off the top spot! Play All Stars now to reclaim your place!

No one wants to be misidentified as a potential bot. Furthermore, a snapped win streak means the other players' best chance to take the lead (since the one who lost their win streak has their attack power reduced).

And as for us buying our way to the TOP girl please, you got jokes 😆 we have work, and obligations and no time to collect free booster so I don’t see it as an issue to purchase available boosters at your own free will no one forced anyone 😏😏😏

Hi Christine,

First of all: thanks for the game, and well played! I'm Astri who fought against you until the very end. Like you, I was left with a strange feeling of playing "against myself" when everyone in my group was so even. It felt impossible at times to climb the list to first place. I was in 7th-9th place for a long time.. I also didn't understand how people at the top of the list managed to get so many points, so quickly, as they did.
I noticed that I was trying to play the game, and not just buy my way through each step. Unfortunately, this was probably the reason why I never made it all the way to the top. Well, that, in addition to the fact that I was really tired after playing for 24 hours straight.
This was my first attempt at All Stars, and even though I'm disappointed, I'm also trying to be proud of myself - that I actually came in 4th place out of the 100 we played against.

Congratulations on 3rd place :-) You were a worthy opponent!

I think basically that for All Stars 2026 we will get a very even game produced with all levels being very similar in nature: Play a double colour bomb (preferably super colour bomb) then make a few moves and if you don't pass play a party popper, UFO or play on for 10 gold bars. Repeat on the next level. Repeat for 24 hours until the round is finished. This is what we saw mostly yesterday and my prediction is that it will be even more so next year: The dragon levels will all have been tweaked so that the jelly fish will definitely finish them. The frog will have been removed from the game so it cannot be used to block in a dragon.

I won't be playing the game any more then nor compete next year in All Stars. Too boring.

I think King has already done your suggestion: same levels for everyone in tournament.

Every levels in the map are same for all players, as I know, so a player can move to the level he/she prefers to before the tournament starts and practises those levels many times in advance. For example he is sitting at level 1000, he knows he can do better from level 1500, he can play the game to level 1500 before the tournament starts, because the starting time of the tournament has been published.

See when you start to notice something is off by yourself then it gets harder to conclude that other people might think it is unfair, rigged and or bots 🤖 no one is just dreaming up these claims out of thin air especially after staying awake for nearly 4 days straight over Easter or playing from the start of the tournament till the end without cheating. Glad you experienced it yourself we are all in the same boat 😊

Ich hatte oben versucht darauf hinzuweisen, dass dies eben nicht der Fall ist: Candy Crush ist kein Geschicklichkeitsspiel und ich glaube gar nicht, dass es einen "besten Spieler" gibt. Würden alle die selben Levels spielen dann würden auch alle erfahrenen Spieler die selbe Strategie spielen, vielleicht sogar die selben Züge machen, denn das Spiel bestimmt für jedes Level welche Züge man machen muss um zu gewinnen. Ich glaube nicht, dass das so ein Turnier fairer machen würde, es wäre dann noch mehr Glückssache als es jetzt schon ist. Hätten alle die gleiche Chancen zu gewinnen dann handelt es sich um eine Lotterie. Ich glaube nicht, dass es überhaupt einen Weg gibt, All Stars für alle fair zu gestalten.

ich möchte gerne einen Vorschlag für das nächste All Stars Tournament machen. Es wäre toll, wenn ihr spezielle Extra-Levels nur für das Turnier erstellen könntet, damit alle Spieler die gleiche Ausgangsbasis haben. So hätten alle die gleiche Chance, Punkte zu sammeln.
Dadurch würde es wirklich auf Schnelligkeit, Geschick und Strategie ankommen – nicht auf Glück oder unterschiedliche Level. Es wäre fairer und würde besser zeigen, wer die besten Spieler sind.
So wie es aktuell läuft, ist es leider ziemlich unfair.

That's a good question. I think I can offer an explanation: Whenever I log into the game to play the first level to join of any tournament leaderboards the game will NOT award the 30x multiplier, regardless of whether it is a new or old level. I am not sure why this is exactly, but I have noticed this is the case and it's like this on every leaderboard tournament, I have played. The very first level played never gets the multiplier, subsequent new levels do. That could explain why there are single digit numbers at the end of the scores.

Sorry for asking you a question in this thread, but I saw a x30 mark appearing on your last photo. What is that? 🤔

If this means we will get the number of purple candies multiply by 30 in an online new level, and we will only get the actual quantity of purple candies in old levels. I think every competitor or mostly in this last tournament must play online new levels only, so 1x30=30, the last digit in the score must be zero.

I barely saw the last digit of a score is zero in every leaderboard, do you know why?

After having played Round 3 This is what I have to add:

I found that the players were really evenly matched which surprised me. I was stuck in 10th position for a long time and each other player seemed to be scoring at exactly the same speed as myself. Look at these scores, they are close together:

I felt like I was in the Matrix and as if none of these players were real and they were all just an illusion for me and I was the only real person. Of course that is nonsense, and eventually some of them slowed down and I managed to edge past some to 3rd position. But I think this screenshot does show just how even this round was. This must be due to changes in the game, such as the new algorithms that take account of the super colour bomb and jelly fish, which determine exactly how many purple can be scored for each level. There already is a huge standardisation of the game in 2025, and these top 1000 players all pretty much use the same method (super colour bombs, win streak plus starting boosters). I do now understand why so many complaints come in all the time about other players being "bots". At this point in the round I did feel like I was myself playing against bots. That must be because the algorithms are written by bots, and players are trained to play the game a certain way by these King algorithms. So the more the game becomes standardised and "fair" the more bot like behaviour players will encounter, because essentially all good and experienced players use the same method. In fact I found during this round that changing strategy from trying to finish the level quickly using boosters to playing to the last move, to paying for 5 extra moves (which would always allow me to pass) all made no difference at all: I remained in exactly the same position on the leaderboard surrounded by players with very similar scores.

The green "playing now" has clearly caused an upsurge in complaints about possible account sharing compared to previous years. Perhaps rightly so, perhaps not and in error. ( I quite like the feature myself, but it certainly has had this effect. )

The question is: Do we need all this data out there to distract players, many of whom are unable to interpret it correctly? If King do not want vigilante surveillance or threats of class action lawsuits King only have themselves to blame by putting too much unnecessary and confusing information out there in the first place.
