I can see where a player has sent a life and I am asking for lives but they are not being stored

I am sorry to hear that you're having this issue with your lives not being stored, I will be happy to assist you here, however I will need some more information from you.
Are you connected through King or Facebook? Do you receive an error message when accepting a life? You've mentioned it just disappears, could it be a life request instead of a given life?

yes, that is correct. I also noticed game was updated four days ago and that is the timing on the lives issue. Have rebooted iPad but to no avail.

If I understand correctly, the issue is that, the lives received from friends, are disappearing and not being added to your game (by refilling) when you "accept"! Did I get that, right?
If so, let me ask our Game Experts' team and see what they say!
candy crush saga on iPad. Storing and asking has worked for years but in last week it is not. I can see lives that have been sent but they disappear as soon as I check all boxes and and accept. It appears app is up to date, gone into App Store to look and shut iPad off and rebooted but still not working. Weird.
you get to use up to 5 at a time but it should be storing any that I haven’t used.
You can also only have maximum 5 lives at a time!

Just for my clarification… are you playing Candy Crush Saga or some other King Saga game?
If you are playing Candy Crush Saga, do you already have 200/200 lives as of now? Which device are you using? Did your friend informed that they sent lives to you?
