I have the edit option but it doesn’t allow for editing - it just defaults to a new comment

I'm sorry I do not follow @Charleyfarley . What do you mean? Are you unable to edit your own comments? I have not had any problem with editing. In fact the system seems to have been improved lately so that we can edit old post. There used to be a time limit.
