I am trying to complete chocolate boxes to gain gold bars to pass the legendary and nightmare levels in the 20,000 plus. The game for me now is to avoid buying bars. Is it impossible to advance with this new candy collection requirement ?
No there is no way to finish this box unless you play and pass new levels. King want you to start paying money. It's quite a common sight at this level range. They will completely block players who have used up their gold reserves.

Is there a moderator on the forum anymore? This glitch just started today, the new levels that were just added are not syncing across my devices. All are up to date.
