This is the first time in a long time that I have been #5 in an episode
race. I am stuck on this level.

I passed the level I was stuck on and got the chocolate thunder. I passed a few levels. Now I am stuck on a nightmare level. I am doing pretty good on filling up the boxes.

If you have already lost the episode race then my best and only advice is to now take it really, really slowly. The game will eventually sense that you are stuck and will help you get back on track.
The best approach would now be to not log into the game for two weeks. The game should then give you some help when you do go back into the app.
Alternatively log in daily to get the boosters but do not even attempt to play this level. Only play old levels to fill the chocolate box if that is possible, and fill the Season Pass to the top. Send lives to your friends and then close the app.
These two methods are definitely the best approach to playing this game if you are stuck mid episode. Don't be tempted to complete the episode and start a new race before you have gathered enough boosters such as lollipops, hands switches and UFOs.
The game will give players who wait like this easier opponents in the weekly contest and other events, and it will give you better rewards in events as well.
If you are struggling to fill the chocolate box using old levels let it expire and then see if the new one you get gives you better choices for using old levels. When the game gives you timed boosters do NOT use these to replay the level you are stuck on, but use them to fill your chocolate box using old levels, as it speeds things up. I know one level which, if you have a timed colour bomb, will fill the wrapped candy choc by giving 200 wraps in about a minute or two by replaying it. You need to find such levels and use them effectively.
Remember this game wants your money, so it is trying to trick you into spending money to keep passing new levels. The only way to out-trick the game is to turn the tables: Don't spend any money. Don't keep playing new levels. Don't fall for the psychological tricks it uses to tempt you into passing new levels for timed boosters. These offers are useless if there is no gold and not enough boosters in your account. So you need to fool the game by pretending you have given up. I am afraid it's the only way.
