New feature: Sweet Choice..... What????

This popped up in my new account today, shortly after reaching level 200. This is the weirdest and maddest thing I have come across yet: We can choose if we want to play the "harder" version of the coming level:

Naturally being inquisitive I had to try this out. Especially since I currently have two accounts both sitting at the same level. Account 1 did not see this feature, so played the normal version (rated super hard) of level 207, account 2 chose the legendary version. I just had to see if they would be different!

The two starting boards looked pretty much identical:

Both started with the fish and super charger combo. But the legendary version has fewer moves! And well, I failed:

Unfortunately to retain the super charger I had to not only pay 10 gold for extra moves but also play a UFO. Serves me right for being so nosy.

The other version passed easily:

Well I won't be doing that again! And nor will anyone else who has their head screwed on the right way, I should think. Whatever are they thinking with this stupid feature???

I get the impression that is per level. Hopefully if there was an overall difficulty setting it would be the same, switch once per level. Then again knowing King…

It makes no difference whether I pay 10 gold for an impossible Super Hard level or an impossible Legendary level at my level range, so the feature would make sense, but not for a 10-minute hammer reward. The only possible use I have for it is the Chocolate Box, but they make sure not to give me any opportunities to get a timed hammer if I need it for the Chocolate Box.

The feature seems odd, given all the complaints about the game becoming too hard. And it certainly feels like a trap. I wonder how many moves a Legendary version of level 114 would have?

Yep, this is a feature that’s currently being tested, glad to see you got it @christinewupp😃

It’s really useful seeing how different play styles react to it, especially when it comes to the tradeoff between extra challenge and the rewards on offer. The comparisons between the two versions are super helpful.

I’m curious, for those who’ve tried it: what would actually make choosing the harder option feel worth it for you? More rewards, different rewards, or is it more about having control over the difficulty in general?

I am surprised by all these positive responses.

I can now see that players who use a patient approach to their games might like this feature. If you are prepared to replay the level many times over instead of passing on your first or second attempt in order to gain 10 minutes of lollipop hammers then I get it. This idea seems similar to deliberately failing a level multiple times in order to get the half hour timed wrap/stripe from the fishing boat. I am surprised there are still players using this approach, but I guess for some it might work especially if you want to use the hammer for the chocolate box.

I see few levels now for which using either a starting wrap/stripe or a lollipop hammer would make a difference between passing or failing, very, very few. So ten minutes of those boosters are not worth it in my view. They would have to up the prize significantly to make this offer appealing.

I don't have this in my game, but from what I can see, I don't see any downsides. If I'm not playing Candy Royale, 10 minutes of lollipops would be enough to convince me to choose the legendary level.

According to the information, hard can become nightmare, super hard can become legendary, the difficulty has been upgraded to two levels.

This feature is so good 👍if a player has just opened the chest of weekly stamp, he can earn more rewards easily

Very interesting. I see this as a new angle of strategy for using timed boosters to complete chocolate box objectives. Whether this turns out to be viable and reliable is a whole different question, and I don't know the answer.

It's surely a trap for people who don't already know exactly what they're doing.
