if I have 2 lives left to play and I win 5 lives why is my total not 7? Shouldn’t the additional 2 lives go into the envelope?

I understand your logic; however, there is a limit of 5 lives in your lives counter. The "envelope" stores lives sent to you from friends. The envelope will hold the messages sent from friends but there is a limit of 200 lives. If you have more than 200 lives, you will still be able to claim the lives above that limit, but it will eventually be capped at 200.
