To answer your questions: 
1) Yes, it is real. CMs will delete comments that are considered spamming.
2) Spam is, for example, posting multiple, successive, comments within a thread that are either too short (some people will make posts one after the other saying -for example- Hi, I am new, Yes, No, Great) or off-topic (meaning that they are of no substance or add anything to the discussion). If you'd like to see an example of a "know spammer" within the Community, feel free to send me a private message and I'll send you a link.
3) It happens when a CM sees a user perform as I described above and/or if someone flagged your comment as spam or off-topic and their complaint was accepted. 

If the CMs comment in your comment disappeared, it might have been a mistake and they corrected it. Or was your comment what disappeared?
