Hiya, are you playing via Facebook right now? There is an outage but they are aware and are working on it. You can play on mobile or windows 10, just the connection part right now won't happen. It will be back asap π€

Hi @KingSSS and welcome to the community. Have you not been playing for a long time? As the companions changed quite a while ago now. Once you get used to it, its not so bad! Hero mode is part of a test that King are trialling and you can read about it here π
