You can clear cache / data within the app's settings and the social hub should be gone temporarily...it's a pain, but it works. I don't like it either. You can also add your friends to your team and sending lives to them will be easier that way too, and you shouldn't have to keep redoing it.
Yes, I can send lives via the popup, but only if I clear the data from the app after playing, and that's only when I first open the game. Also, I don't get requests for lives from my friends when I know they've sent them. I've already adjusted to that...it's just an extra step that I don't prefer. I hope this makes sense.
