    Hi @Yosca.

My husband and I had a motor cruiser which we took from Rotterdam along the rivers and canals of the Netherlands, Belgium and France. Two months later we reached the Mediterranean. It was wonderful to see the cities, towns and villages of those countries on our journey, although some of the very different types of locks were very daunting and it was hard work at times.

I was once out setting some camera traps to help observe the local wildlife populations. I was with a colleague, Mike, and we were alternating which one of us would stop and set the cameras. So I'd set one, then him, etc.

He was behind me by just a few minutes. I stopped to set a camera, and was expecting him to catch up. I heard him coming, and as I was setting the camera, I cut myself.

So I turned around and said, "Shoot! Would you hold this for me while I..."

I was staring at a mountain lion. She and I were both frozen for a second, just staring at each other, sizing each other up.

    It was an eternity.

Her eyes were a bright gold.

Then I remembered I needed to make myself look big, so I flung my arms out and shouted, "I'M SORRY FOR STARTLING YOU!!"

She was off in a flash, into the thick brush.

I was sorry. But I was also relieved that it ended well for both of us.

  • Wow, that sounds really exciting but also a little scary to be in such a remote area while doing adventurous things ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Did you end up enjoying it?

  • Oh wow @ZoLOLogist !!! That is such a cool story and I'm so glad it ended well for the both of you ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I hope Mike is fine too! ๐Ÿ˜

I loved it! You could backpack for a week or two and never run into any other people. Had to carry all of the food that you would eat for the week. The water in the streams was where you would fill up water bottles, bath, and wash clothes. We only hiked about 20 miles a day. Once I had a surprise appearance of a bear, but he didn't bother me. It happened during a sudden downpour and my dad and I ducked under some small pine trees for cover. The bear had the same idea. Thankfully my dad had a permit to carry. The bear chose another bush for cover. Otherwise we might have had hear stew for dinner that night.

I crossed one item off my bucket list when I went with some of my family to Slovenia to meet my cousins for the first time. It was an incredible adventure!

Hey! Would you like to give us your opinion?
