Special candies don’t work

this seems to be a reoccurring problem since it’s happened in the past. But my special power up candies I choose from before I start, they don’t work! Specifically the fish candy one. It always shows the fish swimming right when you start but never puts the fish on the board. So I never get to use them. Then sometimes during gameplay when I make an exploding candy and it explodes, nothing happens. It’s weird. The game seems glitchier than I remember.

When you choose fish as a pre-game special candy, unlike the other special candies, you don't start with a fish on the board. It will double any fish you create during the game.
Unfortunately, they reprogrammed the fish to be stupider about 2-3 years ago, so they feel glitchy. Fish see no reason to pop the only piece left to be popped, when they could instead swim around aimlessly and pop air bubbles or cleared pieces.
