The flashing candy hints annoy me and they are usually not even hinting at the best moves. I would like to be able to turn that feature off.

Good point but I´m afraid this option isn´t available.
Generally it doesn´t bother me too much and I actually find it quite helpful when I get to that point where I´ve seen so much candy that I can´t see any possible move for myself anymore ;-)
