Yes, less colors means more special candies. But I believe that has made the game harder and a bit boring too. Blockers become way too layered. There is many recent levels in Soda filled with 6 layered ice cubes and six-layered honey, and it gets really annoying trying to clear them all. Taking off colors overall makes the game way harder, and many don't seem to realize this. Candy crush took away almost every six colored level in the game. And what do you know, the game became hard beyond belief without spending hundreds of dollars.
With more colors, the blockers don't have as many layers. The board is also more "free" at the beginning. That basically means there more space at the start to make matches and special candies. Sure, the levels can still be hard, but I personally believe that the newer levels are MUCH harder than the old levels ever were, and less colors is to blame for this. The game is ironically easier with more candy colors, and this is why I wish we see more six and seven color levels in the game.
I think this may still be hard to understand, but I hope you all can at least get a gist of what I'm saying.
