Windows app keeps crashing

The app for Candy Crush Soda Saga is having issues. It will start, then just shut down without warning. Sometimes it will load enough to give me the "play" button but clicking that will just make it shut down. This is very frustrating as I can play it on Facebook, but the graphics are better in the app (plus the extra things that aren't in the Facebook version). What is causing this and what can be done to fix it?

First things to check is see if there are any updates for the app in the Windows Store. Failing that, reinstalling the game usually helps but you will lose any banked messages and boosters too.
