Question about level 1193

I can't get the jam to activate , I have read tips etc and it says you have to destroy the peppermint sticks to activate the jam, well I have done this and the jam doesn't spread , I have used boosters etc and still nothin will make the jam spread. I have tried this level dozens of times and I can't get the jam to spread? P.S I have watched videos on this too and I can see it working when you clear the peppermint sticks but it doesn't work on mine.Help!
