In Social Hub latest update players may ask for lives and also boosters.
Lives requests can be made freely.
Boosters requests can be made only by spending stamps . Stamps can be earned in Soda social activities. You may earn stamps in 4 in a row and Shipmates and also when you respond to your friends' requests by tapping on "help" buttons.

They are called stamps and you can use them in the updated Social Hub. With stamps you can request for a life or booster.
