Why did gold bars disappear without using them?

Over the last week, I notice that my gold bars disappear, 10 at a time, even though I have NOT used them. When it happened the first time, I thought maybe I had tapped "Play on", so I was extremely careful after that. I know I DID NOT tap it and my gold bars still disappeared. How come?????

Hi! Sorry, got busy over the holidays. Thanks for replying. My gold bars disappeared before my very eyes! Before starting a level, I'd see the number of gold bars. I'd play a game, maybe succeed, maybe fail, and then I'd look at the gold bar icon and it would be 10 less. But I hadn't purchased extra moves or anything else with gold bars. This happened five times over several days.

Why did gold bars disappear without using them?
