It seems king care does not want to answer me. Anyway today I tried a suggestion on another thread - rewinning the level and it actually worked. It was a hard level so that was annoying but it is fixed!

I don't think it is a glitch but by design. The tiles held by vines do not add to the word count because they do not leave the board. This would explain all your examples not working correctly. While we are waiting for this to be fixed, I have noticed that if you switch to dreamworld and then come back it will sometimes put you back at 934. Saves the scrolling. Sidenote: how terrible is 934. I'm over it!

I am having the same problem, and scrolling back up to 927 everytime I want to play is very tedious.
