I am not sure how to clear the Fireflies?  Can someone tell me how to get rid of them.  I have been able to get rid of them, but than was only by chance.

You have to make two matches next to them. The fireflies will only fly away when all of them have their wings completely open at the same time. You can also get it to open its wings fully by hitting the firefly with a shovel twice if need be. I hope this helps.
