Thanks for the responses. Bizarrely it is working now! I went in to check how many coins and gold bars I had so I could weigh up the risk of uninstalling, it asked me to reauthenticate with Facebook (first time it has done that for a while) and it is all now fine. As someone who works in software tech support, I will blame it on gremlins which is my favourite reason for inconsistent anomalies!
