What happened to all of my beans?

This morning I had over 11K beans, they are now reduced to 850.  What happened, I am sure that I have not used them all.  Thanks!

    If you were playing a Rancid level then its more than likely that you spent them there. Once you choose the difficulty it doesn't change so it takes the beans each time. Orrr, its possible that you used them on the in level animal companions?
