What is the point to 32 hours?

On the recent pet island after finishing level ten I was supposedly awarded 32 hours of unlimited  lives. The only problem is that the game only shows up to 24 hours and drops the rest. WTF? And not only don't I get those eight hours, I lost the five plus hours I had remaining from finishing level six. And don't just say "that's the way it is" either.

    I'd like to know the answer too.  This is the second time it happened to me this week.  I thought I had mis-read the prize.  But it clearly says 32 hours and I only get 24.  And I also lost the time I had already banked from the previous prize.
