How to get rid of bronze dog noise

I play Pet Rescue on both my desktop and my tablet, and a few weeks ago the 'Bronze dog' appeared on the mobile version.  This was really annoying as it was there all the time making this awful 'gunshot' noise that ruined gameplay for me.  I kept expecting it to 'time out' but it was just stuck there all the time and I had to reinstall the game in the end on my tablet, losing all my boosters, some of which I had paid real money for.  

I was pleased to see that the mobile version of the game appeared on my desktop a week ago because I always preferred it to the desktop version - we now have Mystic Mountain and the ability to purchase hammers with coins, which were just building up to no good use before - but to my horror, this morning, the Bronze Dog and its stupid gunshot noise reappeared on my desktop version and I cannot mute the sound without stopping all sound effects.  How can I get rid of it?  I will just have to stop playing the game otherwise because that noise drives me mad.
