Level 1634 says I have to rescue 30 pets. There is not 1 pet in sight! Is there a bug in this level?

I have tried all day to rescue 30 pets. Where are the pets I "need" to rescue? Help!

You need to clear all the grey solid blocks in the bottom before the pets drop down. Use the exploding black balls to clear/
