I used mine to see what it does on my first and so far only episode I played:

So either I am playing here against a bunch of people who don't know what the multipliers are for, or I'm playing against a bunch of people who don't care about this event and just play their usual game ignoring the Winter Cup, or I'm playing against a bunch of people who are saving up their precious multipliers for the finals (which they won't get to without using it). I very much doubt it's the last option.

My verdict: I don't think this feature works yet, as it's not obvious enough what it does. The majority of players probably don't understand it or would not know how to use it, in which case those players are severely disadvantaged. The minority who do understand it will easily outplay those who don't, and win miles ahead. And for those players the incentive to play is gone: I was kind of looking forward to stretch my muscles and try to compete here in levels 300+ but what's the point? Why bother with this account when I am so far ahead after just one episode? I might just give it another go to test out if the thirty minute timer on this feature follows real time or the clock. I'm not in it to win it with this one.

In theory the idea of introducing these multiplier tokens, if they are indeed over the entire event as stated in the info, could be a good idea to reintroduce a strategy element into these live leaderboard competitions. However I fear that the game has been dumbed down to such an extent now that it's too late to introduce any kind of strategy element that requires forward planning or use of our brains. If these multiplier tokens work the way I think they work then a few elite players who know how to strategise will have a huge advantage. Surely we would keep them for the sprint finish to outplay the masses. I think it's too late to introduce such a powerful strategy tool now the game has been dumbed down to practically play itself without thinking. If we get this in All Stars I am looking forward to the masses of complaints near the end…..

You made it to level 18,707… in 5 weeks??? How have you kept up with beating an average of ~535 levels per day? Anything past 30 levels in a day gets me exhausted!

Okay, I looked at your post more closely, and it seems that you've been stuck on level 18,707 for 5 weeks. It's making a lot more sense to me now.

Anyway, I hope you get unstuck soon. If you post a screenshot as QueenB said, it will be easier to get community help.

Part of the frustration caused by the community update is that issues being caused by Vanilla never used to exist even though this forum used Vanilla. The categories all used to fit along the top, so the fact that they don't now means the 'improvement' has failed at a very basic element.

It shouldn't, in my view, require changing to a list or grid view as that never used to be the case. The issue seems to be the placeholder size is far too big for a mobile screen.

It is what it is though and as it has been nearly two months of suffering from the same reported issues I guess there won't be any change soon.
