What happened to our childhood beliefs, our imagination?
“Children are beautiful because they possess something that we have all lost – the quality of innocence,” says our storyteller. “The gap between innocence and experience is endlessly explored. Haven’t some of you felt in exile ever since childhood – not as a result of some traumatic experience, but the simple, slow dimmer switch of time passing and imagination coarsening?”
Do you remember the days, as a child, when you looked forward to Santa Claus, the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny? Then along came the elf on a shelf and it became another magical belief. But then one day you are all grown up and those fantasy beliefs are gone. What if you could have them return to you by making a wish? Which one would you choose and why?”
This now leads in to today's Christmas message. It’s really sad that when we are children we have imaginary friends, believe in mythical holiday characters and enjoy make believe play time. I wrote 2 stories about this and I'd like to share it with all of you.
A story about childhood imagination and make believe - in this story i examined the idea of getting our childhood imagination back
There were many interesting articles that I found but the best one for me was when I found an article about imaginary friends.
Adults who had imaginary friends, meanwhile, report that they are more creative and imaginative than those who did not. We also know that they are better at describing a scene that they have constructed in their imagination. This could be because they were more imaginative to start with and/or that playing with an imaginary friend in childhood helped boost such capabilities.
… adult authors can be seen as prolific creators of imaginary friends in the form of characters. That’s because their characters have personalities and minds of their own, and authors often report their characters leading the writing rather than vice versa. Adults who had imaginary friends, meanwhile, report that they are more creative and imaginative than those who did not….
Read the story and I bet you can see me in there with Tiffi, my imaginary friend.
Elsa learns how to play again - it bothered me that I lost my childhood beliefs so I continued with this story.
Elsa and Tiffi bump into a bunch of characters who are very upset that children have lost their belief in all of them. Isn't it sad that we have such great imaginations as children but as we get older those beliefs disappear. Do you remember the day that you realized Santa wasn't real? How did it make you feel? In this story I realize the importance of adults taking the time to learn how to play again, how to be childlike. Being childish and being childlike are two different things. Some never outgrow the childish behavior but we all forget the childlike behavior and the importance of having fun. When was the last time that you did a childlike thing?
So today's questions for all of you, if you choose to respond, is:
Do you remember what age you stopped believing in all these characters and how did it make you feel.
If you could be childlike, what would you want to do?

It's not always about badges or GB's sometimes it's just bout getting to know other people through their stories thank you @Elsa for this wonderful thread this really made me think I remember when I found out santa wasn't real I was about 11 years old and I felt like my world had crashed Christmas just wasn't the same after my sister was 5 years younger than me so i tried to protect her and keep her from finding out Santa wasn't real for as long as i could because i remember thinking i didn't want her to feel like I had felt when I found out just seems like when all your fairy tale make believe years is over so is all the innocence years seems like that's when life starts slapping you in the face with reality I remember not liking that at all I wanted to go back to being a innocent child again seems like when I reached adulthood i didn't want it i wanted childhood back..
anyway my answer for your question is I was 11 years old and it crumbled my whole world
Answer to the next question is if I could be childlike what would I want to do I guess just be innocent and run around playing not having any worries in the world believe in santa again have my imagination and beliefs back most of all just have fun

Time for me to share. Since Christmas was not my holiday my husband, children and I didn't get to celebrate it. I felt bad that a lot of children out there were getting Santa's gifts under their tree. I decided that my children had to believe in Santa so I bought each of them a gift and wrapped it in Christmas paper. I placed it outside the back door and the next morning I opened the door and said "Hey kids, what's this? It looks like Santa left both of you a present." I never saw 2 kids get so excited to see what Santa brought them. I can't remember how old they were but maybe my daughter was 7 and my son 9. We all had beliefs that Christmas.
