I am playing Bubble Witch 3 Saga. To play on you require gold but I have only been given gold once. I am on level 151. I also find I never get any helpers for difficult levels. How are they earned?

Everything has been working fine until I finished the race I won second but when I open my game it shows half the screen and it won't let me collect it I've tried closing and reopen and nothing working
