The team feature is new to Candy Crush Friends Saga and there may still be some issues. If it is available on your device and/or platform, there will be a new icon at the bottom of your screen. It looks like a green shield with 3 "people" on it. When you click on that icon, it will open up a screen with a list of teams. If the team you are looking for is not listed, use the Search field at the top of the screen. If your team is not found, try again later -- the list of teams keeps changing and it may take multiple attempts to connect with your team.
I am not the creator of a team so I don't know if the creator of the team you want to join can add you directly. It might be worth asking.
