No mystery quests on iPhone

Having finished level 230, I was prepared to go through the Mystery Quests to continue. But there is no option for that - only for paying or asking friends. I won't do either. My Candy Crush game is NOT connected to Facebook, though it asks me to connect them incessantly. Is there any way I can keep playing?

I have read that if you turn off your wifi/3G then the quests will appear again... try it!
