Cannot connect to Facebook in Candy Crush Saga

I play Candy Crush on my ipad IOS 8.4.  For the past few days when I try to connect to Facebook, I get "Network Error. It took too long to connect to Facebook. When I click on Retry, it takes me back to my ipad home screen. I deleted and reinstalled Candy Crush and this didn't help. Any suggestions?

    Tried to connect again a few times today and then Voila! It connected to Facebook so I am back to playing Candy Crush. Only downfall is that I lost all the lives that my friends had given me and I had about 900.
