In trying to unlock more levels, my friend list suddenly doesn't have the people who I know who play

When I access my friends to request help, there are a ton of people in the list, but the people who are gifting me lives and who I've always relied on for help in the past are not in the list.  I've tried scrolling and typing in their names and they don't appear.  How do I get them back?  I don't want to keep waiting 3 days.

I know of an issue like this where players were connected to the kingdom and then looking for their Facebook friends and vice versa, so make sure you're connected to Facebook if you're looking for friends that are on there.
