How do I stop Candy Crush boosters from being selected automatically?

Sometimes when I go to play a level of Candy Crush, there is already a green check by one of the boosters even if I haven't selected the booster. Usually I don't notice this until after I've clicked "Play," and the booster is applied to the level even if I don't want it. I try to save my boosters for levels when I'm having trouble and I don't want them wasted. How can I make this stop?

I noticed that the check mark appears next to the booster you just won on the booster wheel, or if you used it the last time to beat a level. I know to be on the lookout for it now after I hit play a couple of times and used a booster when I didn't want to.
