why cant i play special events?

My candy crush is working completely fine aside from the special events- the envelope  where you access them and your messages from friends only appears when I have received a gift from a friend then immediately disappears after I collect said gift - the trophy area is also grey and will not allow me to open it even when I do have the ability to open the envelope

The trophy area will always be grayed out until you receive a challenge, before that there's nothing there and you can't go into it. As it turns out the challenges don't get released to everyone, a random selection of people have it while others don't. I got the Wild Treasures one but have missed out on quite a few occasions in the past. Gotta have your fingers crossed for the next one!
