level lost and reverted to 1 after connecting to facebook

I only play on my phone and I needed to back up my game as I had a problem with my telephone that might have required me to format it. I followed instructions and connected to facebook and immediately my level on facebook and on my phone became 1 instead of well over 1200 that I had achieved on my phone/ How do I get my level back? This is very distressing
