a friend told me that you have to pay to advance past a certain point in the game. is this true or can it be done with just skill and patience/persistence? he said at one point he got a dialog box telling him he had to pay to continue, i've yet to see any thing like that, but i only started playing 9 days ago, thanks!

Our games are free to download and to play; I agree with your statement about skill, patience and persistence.
To pay is an option, but it is never the only option. I would recommend your friend to take a screenshot of that dialog box if it appears again.
