I only start off with bombs with 3 chances, checked for tips - and everyone I saw says the bombs give you 4 chances not 3?  Any suggestions?

Level 4978 is a booster killer. The bombs have only 3 moves. If you're not lucky, you'll need to use hammers or UFOs. At the beginning two paint bombs clearing the field. That's a move more.
Gold extension is also an alternative.
I wish you good luck, try again and again. The gold (if you have it) used only when it suits the end.
