don't know... it's never happened to me... back when I first started, if I ran low on lives, I switched to a different device and kept playing.... the lives would regenerate on the original device by the time lives ran short on the backup... just kept doing it. now with boosters aplenty, I never lose more than 1 life before returning back to 50
