Some players report that this happens when they accept an invitation from a friend who has custom teams when they don't have them available themselves. Have you accepted such an invitation? and are you able to share a screenshot of your current team please?

You're not following. My last "team" expired. Previously it just reset and assigned me to a new team at random. This time, it's just never reset. No invitations, and no current team. Even the "button" is greyed out and inoperable.
Sorry @Ryanca I confused the clock zeros with team zeros in your first post. Fantastic Five is under development with a lot of changes going on at the moment. There were issues such as yours when the feature was first introduced. Unfortunately all I can do is recommend the following:
