On mobile devices there is also a trial version for some players, with which you can get an extra life with a promotional video. It's being tested. Let's hope it will be rolled out to all players.

Welcome back to the Friendly King Community's Candy Crush Saga forum.
Currently the only way to get permanent lives is to exchange lives with friends. Plus, you'll be getting extra lives from various events and features that can't be saved.
Some of the events and features where additional lives can be found are Dexter League, Rank up, Ad video etc.
